Chapter Eight
Morgan snorted coffee up his nose. He slammed a hand over his mouth and tried not to spray the rest of his mouthful across the room.
Coughing and spluttering, he finally managed to get himself under control and swallow.
âJesus, woman, are you trying to kill me?â
Jenn sat next to him laughing so hard she held her sides. âYou should see your face.â
He frowned. âYou did that on purpose?â
âYeah. I figured we needed something a little uplifting afterâ¦â She tipped her head in the direction of the kitchen.
âOkay, how about a movie then? Iâve got a good selection in the theatre room,â he suggested.
âYou have a theatre room?â
âYeah, up at Trudâs, but we can bring it back here to watch. The family will carry on for hours yet, so thereâll be no quiet movie time up there.â He got to his feet.
âActually, theyâre playing one of my favorite Christmas movies on TV tonight.â She turned her wrist to look at her watch. âWeâve missed the first few minutes, but that wonât hurt.â
âOkay. What channel?â He grabbed the remote off the side table and sat back down as he powered on the TV.
âSeven.â
He flicked through the channels until he found the right one. It took a few seconds, but once his brain registered what he was seeing, his mouth dropped open. âYouâre kidding me. This is your favorite Christmas movie?â
âOne of them.â
âWhatâs the other? Frosty the Snow Man?â He couldnât believe they were going to sit here and watch a kidâs movie. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, for Godâs sake.
âThatâs a good one too.â She smiled at him. âIf you really donât want to watch this, thereâs always the replay of the carols.â
âOh, hell no. Iâm not sitting through those.â He muted the sound.
âWhatâs your favorite then?â Jenn turned sideways on the sofa, her knee brushing against his thigh.
He knew the reaction heâd get when he told her. His sisters always rolled their eyes and gave him hell when he pulled it out to watch. âNational Lampoonâs Christmas Vacation.â
âOh, I love that.â She actually bounced in her seat a little. âDo you have it?â
He grinned. âYou like the Lampoon movies?â
âTheyâre hilarious. I have them at home.â
Well that was something he hadnât expected. He was thrilled to discover something they had in common. âIâve got the full set here.â He got up and offered his hand. âCâmon. Theyâre on the hard drive attached to the other TV.â
She took his hand and he led her down the short hallway to his room. He did most of his viewing in bed, so the bigger TV and his movie drive were hooked up in the bedroom.
âAh, Morganâ¦â She tugged on his hand.
He stopped. âWhat?â
âI donât think this is a good idea.â
He could see her point, but really it was no different than sitting next to her on the sofa. âIâm not asking you to strip and climb beneath the covers, Jenn. Just lie on the bed and watch a movie together. The only difference between here and out there is the bed and it doesnât bite.
